On 15th February the Birkdale Prep School advanced to
the 41st millennium where there are super armoured
humans and war-crazed Orks; as you probably don’t
know, I am talking about Warhammer, a strategic role
playing game where complicated rules are involved.
Everybody had lots of fun, even Senior School boys
came (they won mostly!) and though I don’t think the
Orks were overjoyed about being wiped out, we were
all happy at the end of the day.

One of the wonderful things about Birkdale is the range
of extracurricular activities offered to the boys. Pre-
Prep boys can enjoy Board Games Club, Construction
Club, Computer Club, Story Club and Play Club.
For those with a musical bent, there is Beat Club
(
drums) and Stringfellows (stringed instruments)
and the Pre-Prep Choir which is run by Mrs Fletcher.
Playball, Judo and Short Tennis are very popular after
school activities. Mrs Massey and Mrs Fletcher run the
Pre-Prep Christian Union which the boys thoroughly
enjoy.
The older boys can sign up for various activities. There
is Computer Club for the P1s and Discovery Club and
cricket practice for the P2s. The P3 and P4 boys can
attend Chess Club, ICT Club and Science Club.
The boys can practise their journalism skills in the
Newspaper Club and their thinking skills in the
Intellectual Curiosity Club. Miss Frewin’s Art Club is
very popular, with the boys making magnetic travel
games of their own design. A new club which is
extremely popular is the Photography Club run by
Miss Frewin.
The boys have made great use of the ten digital
cameras kindly donated by FOBS, producing some
beautiful photography which can be seen on the walls
around school. There are the various music groups
available, including Guitar Ensemble and Brass Group
for the Prep boys.
Prep Christian Union is a riot of fun, films and silly
songs, run by Mr Lockwood and Mr Marsh. As well as
after school cricket, rugby and football training, the
boys can participate in basketball, tennis and judo. Mr
Dymock also runs an Advanced Gymnastics Club for
P4s.
These photographs were all taken by the Prep School
Photography Club, which is run by Miss Frewin. It is
new to the Prep School this year, and we hope it will
continue to be as popular as it goes on.
