Design & Technology
trip to
Italy

Design & Technology students visited the Lamborghini Museum
on the outskirts of Bologna during the autumn term, to view the key
designs within the elite collection of cars, tractors and boats.
They then visited Gelato Museum Carpigiani to learn how the
manufacture of gelato had progressed over the years. Travelling
on to Venice they visited St. Mary’s Cathedral, St. Mark’s Square,
and the Rialto Bridge before ascending the Campanile for more
spectacular views across Venice. With free time to explore the canals
and sights around St. Mark’s Square, including Doge’s Palace, the
Bridge of Sighs and the Basilica, they then watched a glass blowing
demonstration within one of the Murano glass distribution centres
and were given a talk on how to colour glass and how the glass
became such an iconic product of Venice.
The final day was spent at the Ferrari Museum north of Bologna
which exhibited a number of F1 racing cars, to see how design had
developed and progressed over the years.
Just before Christmas, the
Sixth Form Choir (joint
with Sheffield High School)
visited Cologne. This was
the third year that the Music
Department had arranged
the trip and it was the
largest choir taken so far,
with 35 pupils and 5 staff
singing.
The choir gave two
performances. The first was
traditional carol singing
in one of the Christmas
markets and the second
was a performance at a
mass in St Pantaleon Kirche
-
a church with an amazing
acoustic for choral singing.
Pupils were also able to
visit Cologne Cathedral and
spend time exploring the
extensive and interesting
Christmas markets.

Last September, 15
U6 pupils visited
CERN in Switzerland
to understand the
Large Hadron Collider
with a tour of the CMS
detector. They also
managed to visit the
stunning St. Peter’s
Cathedral, the United
Nations building and
the Red Cross Museum.
